How Room 13 at C.K. Burns Fable Stories came about

This idea for this project came about because of some read alouds I had shared with my third graders. I was reading the Gooney Bird Greene books which are written by Lois Lowry. Gooney Bird is an endearing, precocious second grader. My students were captivated by her antics in the classroom and her vocabulary. In one of the books, Gooney Bird convinces the teacher that each student in her class should write a fable about an animal. So...the question became, "Can we write fables, Mrs. B?" The fable writing took on a life of its own but dovetailed nicely with our curriculum writing curriculum.
