Maine’s Curriculum Leader of the Year - 2009
The Maine Curriculum Leaders’ Association, announced on Tuesday, November 10, that Carol Marcotte, Ph.D., the Director of Instruction/Curriculum for RSU #23 (Dayton, Old Orchard Beach, Saco), has been selected as the 2009 Maine Curriculum Leader of the Year. Dr. Marcotte has been the Director of Instruction/Curriculum for RSU 23 and its predecessors for four years, and, prior, had been a building administrator for other school systems throughout Maine.
Dr. Marcotte was nominated by educators from within the school system she works.
Dr. Marcotte has been described as “effective in getting teachers, literacy specialists and administrators to work together.” She has “worked to help teachers discover the power of research to determine best practices to implement” in the classroom. “Her communication skills, knowledge base, confidence, and ability to work with others have drawn many teacher leaders to her side.
Dr. Marcotte has also served as an adjunct professor to the University of New England – creating an even stronger bond between K-12 and post secondary educational experiences
Dr. Marcotte is a past president of Maine ASCD and has served on several critical committees for the international curriculum development organization ASCD. She has been a principal and Title 1 coordinator, and served as a delegate for the Ambassador-to ambassador Education program working with Vietnam and Cambodia. She is a voracious learner and has been a member of the Maine Curriculum Leaders’ Association since it began.

Throughout her experiences as an educator, Dr. Marcotte has championed the student first. Focusing on results, she uses student achievement as the guiding force to define her leadership.
