ASSESSMENT
ASSESSMENT

Assessment is an integral part of knowing how well students are learning what we expect them to learn.
In October, students in Grades 3 thru 8 take a statewide assessment, the NECAP (New England Common Assessment Program) in the areas of reading, writing (grades 5 and 8) and math . Students in Grades 5 and 8 will take the MEA in science in May.
In addition to using the state assessment results, RSU23 uses local assessments to determine how well students are progressing in their learning. Old Orchard Beach schools use the NWEA assessments. Students in Saco and Dayton schools, Grades 1-8, use an online Curriculum Based Measure tool called easyCBM to screen students in math 3 times per year. Schools also use the Diagnostic Reading Assessment (DRAII), and a variety of classroom, grade, and school-specific assessments to ensure that student progress is being monitored.
